The fall-out from not getting enough quality sleep is harsh - from exhaustion to a depressed immune system and long-term health risks... but what can we do to turn this around, if our sleep-wake cycle is in chaos?

Kate Mikhail's first-person account of how she tackled her chronic insomnia is an evidence-based book that brings sleep science to life. From NASA light science to how to tune into your body and sleep, Teach Yourself to Sleep is backed up by extensive research and exclusive interviews with leading doctors, scientists, experts and academics - to help you understand sleep like never before.

Teach Yourself to Sleep takes a thought-provoking and accessible look at the science and biology of sleep, opening up a new way of looking at sleep issues in a much wider context. It is the perfect blend of original research, practical advice and interesting history that brings a fresh perspective to the topic of sleep and a new approach for unlocking the obstacles that might be holding poor sleepers back from getting the better, quality sleep they need.

About the Author

Kate Mikhail is a London-based freelance journalist and editor, who has written a wide range of features and reviews for the Guardian, Observer, Telegraph and Independent newspapers, as well as for many other publications. After decades of not being able to get to sleep easily at night, a chance reading of a book by her great-great uncle Richard Waters, a pioneer in cognitive therapy and clinical hypnosis in the 20th century, led to the discovery that she was officially a chronic insomniac. A love of research, science and a fascination in the mind-body loop, drove Kate to find scientific answers for why sleep can be such a problem for so many people in the 21st century, and what can be done to put this right.

Kate is now an ex-chronic insomniac, thanks to researching her first book, Teach Yourself to Sleep, in which she explores the biology and science of sleep and how to look at sleep from a different perspective to improve the quality of sleep, health and wellbeing.
