Neuroscience has now discovered a pathological brain process, Hyperapoptosis, in which neurons (brain cells), die at an accelerated rate, culminating in actual shrinkage of vital parts of the brain, which occurs in neurological illnesses like seizures, Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease, and is now known to also occur in major so-called "mental" illnesses, severe major depression, bipolar, disorder and schizophrenia.
