About the Author
Deborah Canter, PhD, RD, LD is Professor and Graduate Program Director in the Department of Hospitality Management and Dietetics at Kansas State University, where she has been on the faculty since 1977. She has served in numerous capacities within the American Dietetic Association including national secretary for the Dietetic Educators of Practitioners Practice Group and 4 years on the ADA Board of Directors as Chair-Elect and Chair of both the Council on Education and the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Her newest position of service is as a member of the Board of Director's Education Committee, a group which provides leadership for the future of dietetics education. Widely recognized as an excellent teacher and speaker, Dr. Canter was the recipient of the American Dietetic Association's Medallion Award in 2002 and the ADA Foundation Award for Excellence in Practice in Dietetics Education in 1997. She was also recognized in 1991 as the Professor of the Year for Kansas by the Carnegie Foundation's Council for the Advancement and Support for Education (CASE). Dr. Canter received her B.S. degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin and her master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with food systems management as her area of interest and expertise.
