It's a special garden where friendships blossom, illnesses fade away and sorrows flee. There troubled orphan Mary (Kate Maberly), her spoiled, sickly cousin Colin (Heydon Prowse) and kindly country boy Dickon (Andrew Knott) discover that a world of caring can make a world of difference.

Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic story blooms anew in this enchanting new version lovingly adapted by Caroline Thompson (Black Beauty) and directed by Agnieszka Holland (Europa Europa). Maggie Smith and John Lynch also star.

"If you look the right way," Mary says, "you can see the whole world is a garden." Discover a whole world of magic in this wonderful movie.
Industry Reviews
'The result is an instant classic - rich, dense, resonant, powerful.' - Jay Carr, Boston Globe

'The film retains the gothic atmosphere of the book and looks amazing, thanks to Roger Deakins's scintillating photography. Stealing the show is Maggie Smith as beastly housekeeper Mrs Medlock.' - David Parkinson, Radio Times

'This enchanted tale vividly shows how love heals and nurtures barren souls, makes them flourish like abundant Edens.' - Carrie Rickey, Philadelphia Inquirer

'Executed to near perfection in all artistic departments, this superior adaptation of the perennial favorite novel will find its core public among girls , but should prove satisfying enough to a range of audiences.' - Todd McCarthy, Variety

'It is, first and foremost, a visual delight, a Victorian picture book come to life, from its brief prologue in India through its darkly enchanted recreation of Misselthwaite Manor on the Yorkshire moors.' - David Ansen, Newsweek
