Review by Caroline Baum
As well as being everywhere with her award-winning and bestselling novel The Natural Way of Things, Wood has found time to compile and edit this collection of interviews with writers undertaken over the past three years. Modelled on the Paris Review’s author interview format, this dozen was originally offered to subscribers online. It’s a wonderful opportunity to eavesdrop on practitioners talking candidly about craft, risk-taking, setbacks and circuit breakers. All aspiring writers and practitioners will find gems here, while readers will find fresh insights to deepen their appreciation.
Industry Reviews
Taken individually any one of these thoughtful conversations has the capacity to draw the reader into a zone of sympathy and appreciation, even if she has not read the published works of the interviewee. Collectively the conversations constitute a valuable resource for writers, teachers and general readers intrigued by the psychology and craft of making fiction. * The Australian *
