This is my blood, this is my song. In the early 1940s in Czechoslovakia, Rafael Ullmann and his family are sent to Terezin, the so-called model ghetto for Jewish artists. In the 1970s in Canada, Annie Ullmann lives a predictable, lonely life on a prairie with her reclusive father and deaf-dumb mother. Thirty years later, in Australia, Joe Hawker is uncertain about himself and his future. About the Author

Richard Yaxley is an author and educator based in Queensland. He writes novels, plays, poetry and educational texts. His most recent work, Drink The Air, won the Young Adult prize at the 2010 (but now cheerlessly defunct) Queensland Premiers’ Literary Awards. A second novel for young adults, entitled Joyous And Moonbeam, will be released in May 2013.

In 2011 Richard was awarded a Medal in the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to education, literature and performing arts. He is a passionate supporter of AFL team, Hawthorn.
