This special edition commemorates the 30th anniversary of this classic multicultural picture book. Jo is ill and has to stay in bed for the day, but her mum promises to bring her home a surprise to make her feel better. All day long Jo looks out of the window waiting for her mum to return, and in the meantime sees all her friends from the neighbourhood, including the postman, the window cleaner and Mrs Ali from next door. But when will Mum be back with her surprise for Jo?

About the Author

Tony Bradman has been involved with children's books for over 30 years as a writer, a reviewer, and an editor of over 30 anthologies. His books include the highly successful Dilly the Dinosaur series, the Happy Ever After sequels to famous fairy tales, and picture books such as Daddy's Lullaby and Through My Window. Tony is also the lead author for Project X, OUP's reading scheme for boys up to Year 6. He has been a judge for the Smarties Book Prize, Booktrust Teen Awards and is chair of the Siobhan Dowd Trust.

Eileen Browne lived in London for over twenty years before moving to Wiltshire where she now lives. She worked as a school teacher and a youth worker before becoming an author and illustrator. Her first book was published in 1977. Eileen believes "Certain groups of people are not well represented in books. For example, females only feature as main characters in around 30% of children's books. Because of this, I give them priority. "Where's That Bus?" was one of the first animal picture books with all female characters." Eileen has written books with Kit Wright and Floella Benjamin.
