Towards Parenthood has grown out of the special program of Australia's Parent-Infant Research Institute (PIRI), a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the emotional well-being of parents and infants. This guidebook assists parents in managing the complex demands of parenting. Additionally, Towards Parenthood strengthens the relationship between the parents themselves, as well as the relationship between parents and infants. It presents skills in coping, problem-solving, enhancing self-esteem, assertive communication, bonding with the new baby, and understanding the baby's cues. This PIRI program has been extensively piloted with Australian families and has been revised to incorporate focus group feedback.
