Princess Yona lives an ideal life as the only princess of her kingdom. Doted on by her father, the king, and protected by her faithful guard Hak, she cherishes the time spent with the man she loves, Su-won. But everything changes on her 16th birthday when tragedy strikes her family!
Yona and her friends head out in search of a crop that can grow even in barren land. On their travels, Hak becomes filled with grim determination while training Yona in swordsmanship. Yona notices that he’s acting differently and tries to cheer him up, but what Hak does next leaves her stunned!

Industry Reviews
"Like most people when they write a review, I’m a little biased, and I’m particularly fond of series that remind me of my childhood and teen favourites - Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Fuushigi Yuugi, Inu-Yasha - I like romance, but I don’t want a series to be pure fluff, so I’m partial toward action-adventure tinged with romance on the side. I also like drama - especially historical or fantasy drama - but some well-placed comedy is a relief, even in the darkest of times. A sort of epic shoujo fantasy, Yona reminds me of these series in the sense that it has aspects of several genres all at once." - The Geekly Grind
"Although the series doesn’t do anything particularly groundbreaking, the main story is laid out pleasingly thanks to the emphasis on the relationships between the characters created by several strong flashback sequences. The character are also enjoyable, with Hak’s portrayal a notable highlight which made up for Yona being a little bit hard to like in the early going." - Taykobon
"As such, fans of fantasy genre novels are likely to enjoy this manga, and it is not so deeply beholden to the tropes of shojo manga as to be inaccessible to these readers. Kusanagi takes her time to develop not just Yona, but also Hak and Su-Won, so that by the end of the volume you feel the enormity of Su-Won’s betrayal, which ends up not only seeming a betrayal of Yona’s trust, but a betrayal of his fundamentally kind nature." - Nerdspan
