High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is a condition in which the pressure of blood in the arteries is permanently elevated. This condition can lead to serious health problems, such as heart disease, stroke and kidney disease. The exact causes of high blood pressure are often not clearly identifiable, but risk factors such as an unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, smoking and genetic predisposition play a role. There are two types of high blood pressure: primary (essential) hypertension, which has no specific cause and is more common; and secondary hypertension, which is caused by other health problems such as kidney problems or hormonal imbalances. High blood pressure is often referred to as the "silent killer" because many people have no obvious symptoms and are therefore unaware that they are affected. Regular blood pressure measurements are crucial for early detection and control of high blood pressure. Untreated high blood pressure can lead to serious complications, including heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and vision problems. Therefore, it is important to take high blood pressure seriously and take active measures to prevent and treat it.
