Merrick - vain and beautiful, and determined to escape their family's provincial life - doesn't plan on staying long. But the Darling Manor has changed since she went away, and not for the better. The borders - the province's main defense against the mist, and the deadly monsters that lurk within - have been failing for unknown reasons. And Estrella is different: reclusive and strange.
