Create a Booktopia Account
If you would like to purchase from Booktopia for your school, library, government department or business the first step is to create a Booktopia online account for your organisation. Refer to Creating and updating your account for more detailed information.
Booktopia automatically assigns all new accounts as Account Type "Personal". In order to gain access to additional functionality specifically designed for Education, Government and Business customers we recommend you change your Account Type to one of the following:
- Education
- Government
- Business
(If you already have an existing Personal Account Type and you want to update your Account Type, skip to Step 2)
Step 1: Create a Booktopia Account
Select Join from the top right hand corner of our website. Complete all of the information required at the prompt New to Booktopia?
Alternatively you can begin your shopping experience and you will be prompted as part of the checkout process to create your new account. If you have not placed an order with Booktopia before, and you require instructions visit the Help Section "How to place an online order".
Please remember to keep a record of your user name and password for your next visit.
Step 2: Change Account Type
Selecting or updating your Account Type is a simple and quick process.
Updating to an Education, Government or Business Account Type provides additional functionality such as the ability to input your organisation's purchase order or internal reference number against a Booktopia order, allowing for easier internal auditing and cross referencing of accounts/invoices. Additionally you will be notified of relevant offers and promotions.
Click here to update your account type. You will be prompted to select your Account Type from the drop down menu. Select from Education (Schools & Libraries), Government or Business. Please complete the remaining fields including the name of your organisation and position.

Order Placement Options
Online Order
Booktopia is an online store; the preferred method of placing an order with Booktopia is via our website online ordering system. Orders placed using this method are given priority for processing and most of the communication you will receive from us regarding your order is via our custom built Message Centre accessible from within your Booktopia Account. Refer to Placing an order for detailed instructions.
Online Order - Credit Card Payment via Phone
For orders that require a credit card payment to be taken over the phone due to firewall restrictions, simply place an online order, at the Payment Information section select the (Cheque/Money Order) payment option and continue to submit your order. An order confirmation number will be provided on screen and via email.
Next contact our Customer Service team (See Contact Us), quote the Booktopia order number and provide credit card details for payment processing.
Flexible Payment Options
Booktopia offers a range of payment options for our Education, Government and Business clients:
- Order online and pay online using a personal or organisation credit card
- Order online and phone through credit card details
- Order online and select bank transfer. Transfer details are given at the end of the transaction. As soon as payment is received your books will be ordered from the supplier.
Please note that all orders require payment before the ordered is processed from Booktopia's stock or ordered from the supplier. Orders cannot be processed until the monies have been received and the funds have been cleared in our account
Other Payment Options
If you are NOT paying by credit card or bank transfer at the time of purchase, you can complete all your shopping and go through to checkout. At the payment screen, select the first radio button BANK TRANSFER. This will hold your order in the system while you organise for your payment to be made at which time it will be processed and shipped. If a Tax Invoice is required in order to process payment, please refer to the section below on Tax Invoices.
Adding a Purchase Order Number or Internal Reference Number
To assist customers with cross-referencing and reconciliation of accounts payable all Account Types (Education, Government & Business) prompt an additional fill in box at the checkout process. This feature allows the entering of any Purchase Order (PO) number or internal reference number to be added to each individual Booktopia order. The PO or Reference Number is recorded on the Booktopia Tax Invoice which can be accessed from the Invoices and Shipment section under My Orders/Order History.
If the number was not available when the order was submitted a Purchase Order Number or Internal Reference number can be added later.
Go to My Orders/Order History, select the Order, then click on Add a Purchase Order/ Internal Reference Number to your order.
Please note: for any orders where the payment is a funds transfer or being mailed to Booktopia in the form of a cheque or money order, the order cannot be processed until the monies have been received and the funds have been cleared in our account.
Tax Invoices
Booktopia's standard process is to generate a Tax Invoice once the products have been paid for and dispatched from our warehouse. A copy is included with shipment and is also available to download/print in your My Orders/Order History.
Requesting a Tax Invoice for Payment Purposes
If your accounts department requires a Tax Invoice in order to generate/approve payment, you can request a Tax Invoice from our Customer Service team.
To do this, you will first need to place your order online, select one of the delayed payment options and submit to receive the order number. Email your Tax Invoice request (including a reference to the Booktopia Order Number) via the Message Centre or contact our Customer Service Team (See Contact Us). We will then email the requested Tax Invoice to the Booktopia Account holder's email address.
Promotion Codes Redemption
From time to time Booktopia may offer our customers promotions that require a specific code to be applied during the shopping checkout process. Add the relevant code at the 'Gift Certificate, Store Credit and Promotion Codes' field and select Apply, this will then be applied to your order.
Bulk Orders
Booktopia specialise in Bulk Orders for a wide range of customers. To find out more about placing a bulk order, click here.
Please note that quotes will be valid for a specified time, are firm sale and require payment before being ordered from the supplier. Booktopia will give an expected time frame for delivery as indicated by the supplier.

- ISBN - 13 digit unique identifier of the book
- Contact Name
- Organisation name
- Phone number
- Email address if an alternate is required
- Delivery address
- Time required by
NB: To send an enquiry using the Message Centre you will need to create a new online account.
